The annual Santa Fe Indian Market will be at the historic Santa Fe Plaza this weekend.  In conjunction with the market and Santa Fe Indian Market Week, today’s Photo of the Week,  commemorates Native American sculptor, Allan Houser. His 1980 work, Medicine Man,  was carved from a block of marble  in 1980. The piece was installed in the new Allan Houser Sculpture Garden, the back patio at The Compound Restaurant last spring.  The prayerful serenity of this beautiful piece is palpable. Currently, two Houser bronze pieces are featured there;  Canyon Passage,  1993  and Water Spirit Bird,  dating to 1980. The intimate, landscaped patio is a restful place for a dining al fresco.

More of Allen Houser’s work can be viewed at the Allan Houser Gallery at 125 Lincoln Avenue and at the Allan Houser Compound about a half-hour southeast of Santa Fe.
