Tidbits: Santa Fe holiday music and happenings

It feels like Christmas in Santa Fe. The town is all lit up and at least at the moment, there’s snow on the ground. Hope we get some for Christmas Eve. It will make Canyon Road much more special for the annual Farolito Walk. If you want company for the evening or perhaps learn a bit about local history, join our walking tour that evening. this year due to Sunday’s snow storm.

Not sure if it’s ever happened before but, the annual Las Posadas was cancelled due to Sunday’s snow storm. It will be back next year.

Holiday Music:
I had promised a separate post on this. There were so many concerts and dates that I decided to list the concert group and link to their site where you can get complete details. The next few weeks will be filled with music. We hope you get to take advantage of some of the holiday concerts.

Santa Fe Concert Association has both Christmas Eve and New Years Eve concerts planned. The NYE one is followed by a dinner dance at La Posada de Santa Fe.

Santa Fe Desert Chorale, the oldest choral group in New Mexico, celebrating its 30th birthday this year, has a series of programs scheduled from December 14th through the 30th at various venues in Santa Fe and Albuquerque.

Santa Fe Pro Musica is offering two concerts, A Baroque Christmas and Mozart Holiday.

Santa  Fe Women’s Ensemble presents A Winter Festival of Song 2012 for the holidays. The last two performances are held this week.

Schola Cantorum of Santa Fe, an organization dedicated to sacred music, has two Christmas concerts planned.

Other music:
Santa Fe Performance Exchange presents guitarist Chuscales in concert on Friday, December 21st and Saturday, December 22nd. The flamenco master presents Chuscales- My Gypsy Soul. Performances take place at El Museo de Cultural at 7:30pm both evenings. He will be joined by other musicians, dancers and a flamenco singer. Tickets, $25, can be purchased at the door or in advance. Doors open at 7pm.

Other events:
Golden Dragon Acrobats launch brings their exciting Cirque Zíva to The Lensic Performing Arts Center Thursday, December 20th through Saturday, December 22nd. The fast-paced performance by this talented group includes traditional Chinese acrobatics, dance and colorful costumes to enthrall children of all ages. Tickets, available at the Lensic box office or online at Tickets Santa Fe, range from $20 to $35.00. Evening performances are at 7pm and there’s a Saturday matinee at 1pm.

Rosewood Inn of the Anasazi is starting a new holiday tradition this year. They’re introducing Zazi the Elf.  The little guy is one of the highly popular Elf on the Shelf elves.  He will be somewhere around the hotel or Plaza area every day. His location will be posted daily the hotel’s Facebook page each day. Give them a like and discover where you can spot him. Children who find him can stop by the concierge desk and claim a prize. Local and visiting families are welcome to stop by the hotel for the elf hunt.
