NM: Santa Fe and beyond- the perfect place to propose or have a little Valentine’s Day romance

Santa Fe, New Mexico, is the perfect place to propose. This Valentine’s Day, grab the ring and your honey and head for The City Different. For one of the biggest moments in your life you want a very special place and Santa Fe with its old world enchantment will give you lasting memories. If you’re not ready for that big step, or have already taken it, come share a romantic weekend with the man or woman of your dreams. Here are some romance packages you can take advantage of in The City Different.

Romantic Santa Fe

If you want to escape to a secluded sanctuary, head to  Bishop’s Lodge Ranch Resort & Spa for your lovers getaway. The hotel is offering three $99 options, so guests can create their own experience. For the entire month of February, the hotel’s traditional rooms can be had at that rate. (Expert tip: upgrade to a Ridge Room, the Superior ones offer panoramic sunset views.) Add is a romantic dinner for two (also $99) including a Champagne toast and a rose. The 3rd element on is the Passion Couples Massage at the resort’s SháNah Spa for $99 per person. This unique treatment uses a romantic blend of essential oils that, according to the spa, “awaken a passion for love, life and laughter.”

The Four Star, Four Diamond, Rosewood Inn of the Anasazi always has the A Sense of Romance Two-Night Package for Two on offer, but according to the hotel, it is most popular around Valentine’s Day. It offers accommodations for two nights. One of those nights, enjoy an intimate candlelight dinner either in your room or their living room (reserved especially for you). Other amenities included in this package are breakfast each day, chocolate-dipped strawberries and Tattinger Cuvee Prestige Brut Champagne amenity on arrival and the Inn’s signature bed-of-roses turndown. Guests get a digital camera to record their time in Santa Fe and the Inn will download the pictures to a disc for you. You’ll also get Love and Passion, a CD by the late, legendary guitarist Ruben Romero. The inn also offers a one-hour exclusive appointment with one of their Romance Experts (aka concierge) to acquaint you with what Santa Fe has to offer. They will then make your reservations and any other arrangements you request. Expert tip: If you’re coming for Valentine’s Day, talk to the concierge in advance so they can secure your dinner reservations. If you’re dining out on the big night, tables are at a premium. Better yet, have your romantic hotel dinner on V-Day and dine out the second night. If you come the weekend before, Saturday night is when many people will be out for their romantic dinners.

Santa Fe Romance: Encantado, an Auberge Resort

The Five Diamond Encantado, an Auberge Resort takes love seriously. In addition to room packages, they are offering Valentine Day related events. Their Celebrate Valentine’s Day Promotion offers guests booking a Casita or Suite for at least a two-night stay, February 9th through February 15th, receive a complimentary room upgrade.  You’ll find a bottle of sparkling wine in your suite upon arrival. The package also includes breakfast each day and a $100.00 resort credit that can be used anywhere on the property, are included.

Their Valentine Eleganza package says, “Bypass the expected Valentine’s card-flowers-chocolates, and relax into a unique evening of pure love.” Available for stays February 1st through February 29th, this package includes one night in their Luxury Casita, a bottle of New Mexico’s Gruet Champagne awaits in your suite upon arrival, a romantic dinner for two at Terra, their Four Star restaurant. The icing on this sexy cake; breakfast in bed for two.

On Saturday, February 11th from 9:00am to 12:00 noon, you can create your own Love Potion Number Nine. Encantado is offering a love potion workshop. Guests can create personalized potions or a signature fragrance that, according to the resort, will take you on “an aromatic journey” and transport you to “the ancient world of alchemy.” Participants will leave the class, ($125 per person) with a personal formula and 30 ml of customized fragrance.

The charming, unpretentious, Inn on the Alameda says, “Love for two, that’s the thing to do!” Their mid-week Love for Two package offers two nights in a Deluxe King Room with a gas-burning kiva fireplace, a pair of chocolates from local chocolatier, Todos Santos, two rejuvenating 50-minute massages, a bottle of the local Gruet Champagne-style wine. The inn offers a lavish continental breakfast and a wine and cheese reception daily. The package is good from February 12th through the 16th and must include February 14th.And remember; make your Valentine’s Day dinner reservations early. Restaurants are busy on this special day for lovers.

If you want to get out of Santa Fe for a romantic getaway, here are a few places offering Valentine’s getaways.

New Mexico romance Ojo Caliente

The historic Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs Resort and Spa offers a romantic getaway a little over an hour northwest of Santa Fe. Their Month of Love goes from February 1st through 29th (yes, it’s a leap year, hint, hint, ladies). The couples package offers one night of lodging (rates based on accommodations selected), two 50-minute custom massages, a 50-minute soak a deux in one of the private outdoor pools with kiva fireplace (expert hint: do this at night), a bottle of wine or sparkling cider, Ojo souvenir glasses and chocolate truffles. If it’s in your budget, opt for one of the suites. Both the Pueblo and Cliffside suites have wood-burning fireplaces. These accommodations are arranged around a traditional plaza. Enjoy a soak in the round Kiva Pool at the Plaza’s center. It’s a quiet oasis, reserved for suite guests only. Cliffside Suites come with their own soaking tubs on their secluded patios.  Treat yourselves to a romantic dinner in the Artesian Restaurant. If you’re a chocolate lover, finish your meal with the witty Chocolate Cigar.

Taos has some romance in the air, too.  A few hotels and bed and breakfasts are offering romance packages.

Taos Romantic getaways

Dreamcatcher Bed and Breakfast’s Valentine’s Day Package offers a romantic getaway including two nights lodging, Swedish massage for two, gourmet chocolates en suite, breakfast, and delicious munchies in the common room throughout the day . Each room gets a $50 dinner certificate to use at Graham’s Grille, Lambert’s, Byzantium or Antonio’s.

El Monte Segrado Living Resort and Spa suggests you “take your love to new heights, savor the beauty of Taos and enjoy a romantic getaway.” Their year round Romance Package offers “luxury accommodations” for two, Gruet Sparkling Wine and berries, breakfast for each morning and dinner at the resort’s De la Tierra restaurant. Relax while you soak in a hydro-therapy tub for two followed by a 60-minute fireside couple’s massage.

Romance minded skiers will enjoy the Wintertime Romance and Relaxation package at the historic Hotel La Fonda de Taos. The inn, located on the Plaza, is offering a two night stay in a Plaza King Room, skiing passes for two days, a $50 gift card toward dinner at the hotel’s Plaza Café, two 50-minute massages, flowers, champagne, chocolate and a private DH Lawrence Forbidden Art Tour.

No matter where you go for your romantic Valentine’s Day escape, or if you choose a quiet evening at home; love is in the air. Cupid said so.

      Santa Fe has some really great hotels. Southwestern Santa Fe style is the most common room decor theme in these parts.
