Santa Fe: There’s holiday music in the air

Santa Fe has world-class music all year. The Christmas holiday season is a special time in The City Different and there are always a host of concerts. Some well established groups are known and loved for their annual seasonal performances, an important part of our city’s holiday tradition. Here’s a list of groups that offer annual holiday entertainment.

Aspen Santa Fe Ballet’s annual production of The Nutcracker, at the Lensic Performing Arts Center, is a classical presentation of the beloved ballet. However, their second act adds an unexpected twist. They have added circus-like performances that enchant the audience. The costumes and sets are wonderful; the dancing world-class. Even the young dancers in the production are terrific. The audience, filled with children, is entranced by this fast-paced performance. There is not a sound in the house except the music. Adults love this Nutcracker too.

The Santa Fe Symphony  has two holiday offerings. Their free concert, Carols & Choruses is held at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Francis de Assisi. This is a popular event; arrive early. The Symphony also has an annual performance at the Lensic Performing Arts Center.

The Award-winning Desert Chorale, entertaining Santa Fe audiences since 1983, was New Mexico’s first professional choir. They offer varied concert programs during the holiday season.
