Photo of the week: Abiquiu church ruin

Abiquiu old church ruins photo Billie Frank

The ruins of an old church just south of Abiquiu, NM, photo/Billie Frank

We’ve passed this old church just outside Abiquiu, NM many times and I always wanted to get a photo. On a wild-goose chase last Sunday, we took the time to stop and shoot a few photos. Abiquiu, NM a small hamlet is a bit famous. Georgia O’Keeffe fell in love with it in the 1930s and lived at Ghost Ranch north of town. In the 1940s she bought and restored an old house in the village. The iconic artist and her work attract visitors to New Mexico.  They want to visit the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe, her home and studio and Ghost Ranch, both in Abiquiu.

If you know anything about the history of this Abiquiu church, contact us. We’d love to know about it.

If you want to tour some of the Northern sites in Abiquiu and beyond that O’Keeffe painted and made famous, contact The Santa Fe Traveler. We can arrange a tour for you.
