We turned a corner in Carthage on Missouri Route 66 and discovered Boots Court. We had to stop to take a photo of the sign. We were greeted by Pixie, one of the two sisters who bought the vintage property several years ago and are lovingly restoring it. She offered us a tour and we said “yes.” Boots Court was opened by Arthur Boots in 1939. The sign promises a “radio in every room,” and that’s still true. The sisters have found reproduction radios from the 30s. We saw rooms 6 and 10 where Clark Gable stayed both before and after World War II. Room 10 even had a garage in the basement where the movie star stashed his Cord. Route 66 buffs love Boots Court — just read the Trip Advisor reviews. If you’re driving through Carthage on Missouri Route 66 stop by Boots and at least take a photo. If you’re a fan of retro properties, book a room.
