One cold day last winter I saw a recipe contest being held by Santa Fe’s Inn on the Alameda, for hot drink recipes. I sent in what I thought was a winner. It was! I won the prize, a two night stay in one of their one-bedroom fireplace suites. The prize was good for a year. We saved it for our anniversary last week. Our suite was wonderful, especially the bonus soaking tub we had (the only one in the hotel). If you’re not lucky enough to get that suite, or if it’s not in your budget, there are two outdoor walled-in hot tubs on the three acre property.
We thank the Inn on the Alameda for a wonderful time. Here’s the winning recipe to warm you up on those cold winter nights.
Hot Chocolate with Amaretto
1 TBS Green & Black’s Organic Cocoa (or your favorite cocoa)
2 tbsp. Organic sugar
1/2 tsp. Chimayó Red Chile Powder (optional if you want a taste of New Mexico)
1 cup Organic whole milk
1 ounce Amaretto di Saronno
Optional whipped cream topping
Heat the milk in a sauce pan. While it is heating, mix dry ingredients together in a cup. Add just enough milk to the dry ingredients to make a paste. Pour the hot milk (not boiling) into the cup and stir vigorously. Add the Amaretto and stir. Top with shipped cream if desired.
If this doesn’t make you feel warm and cozy, nothing will!
